Albedo Measurement
THEMACS Ingénierie offers albedo measurements of your surfaces and coatings, in the laboratory or in the field.
ALBEDO
Albedo is the energy reflection factor of a surface subjected to solar radiation.
This coefficient is dimensionless and represents the ability of a surface to reflect solar radiation.
A surface will be perceived as white if the albedo is greater than 0.8.
On the contrary, it will be perceived as black if the albedo is less than 0.03.
MEASUREMENT OF ALBEDO IN THE LABORATORY
Themacs Engineering offers you a rapid characterization of the albedo of your materials and surface coatings.
Measures in accordance with standards NF-EN 4593, ASTM-E903 and G173

ON SITE ALBEDO MEASUREMENT
The following figure is from standard E1918-06. The principle is to measure the incident solar flux with a pyranometer and then rotate it by 180 ° to measure the reflected flux.
The measurement must be made in a fixed time because the pyranometers have relatively slow response times.
This method is essential for measuring the albedo of heterogeneous surfaces in the field, such as soils or ground vegetation.
